The purpose of this Blog

This blog is to detail my 50 years (1973 - 2023) with a 1928 Chevrolet tourer, affectionately called "The Red Chev".

The acquisition, restoration, improvements and my experiences over the years are covered in as much detail as I can remember.

Some of the later postings include car club outings and other vintage car items that I hope will be of interest to people.

If you have the time, scroll back to where it all began in 1973 and follow the journey so far.

Thanks for dropping by.

Regards Ray Dean

1927 Pontiac Sport Cabriolet - A Great Barn Find!

Up for bids is this great old Pontiac, a 1927 Sport Cabriolet. This car has just emerged from a 53 year hibernation. Originally from Washington State, it was brought to Oregon in 1956, used sparingly, and then stored on blocks in 1960. Until I bought it last month, it had sat in the same spot since then. During that time, the motor was hand turned a few times a year, oil was changed every 10 years, but the car never moved, not for the next 53 years. Thankfully, the garage the car was stored in was heated, which is responsible for the remarkable condition the car is in today.

I have just undertaken a careful mechanical reconditioning, but aside from fresh fluids, the car didn't need much. The motor showed 60psi on all cylinders, and fired up almost instantly. The car is now back on the road and runs like a peach. Some further attention will be needed before the car embarks on any long distance journeys, but at this point the car is like a time traveller from another era, still motoring down the road after 86 years.
